Tumbler Aromatization Systems series TSS

With this system it is possible to aromatize bulk solid products such as snacks, chips, candy, tablets and more having the shaped of granules, pellets, chips and flakes.
The system is constituted by a Tumbler ( rotating drum ) into which it is conveyed the product to aromatize.
The flavour has to be a fine powder, possibly having a granulometry lower than 100 micron, and it is dosed and dispersed inside the tumbler so that can envelop the product to aromatize. The flavours usually used are various kinds of spices such as chili pepper, paprika, pepper, cinnamon, vanilla but also other powder products such as tomato, truffle, bacon, cocoa, coffee, sugar, salt to name a few.

The Tumbler has a truncated-conical shape, open on two sides, and it rotates horizontally on its own axis. The product to aromatize enters by the smaller diameter side and comes out on the opposite side simply rotating. The Tumbler has an inside profile properly shaped that moves the product by rolling it on itself. The product, doing so, is covered by the flavour evenly on the whole surface.

To obtain a good aromatization it is necessary that the products are dosed in the tumbler continuously and constantly. The relative dosers can be volumetric or gravimetric. With the gravimetric solution you get an aromatized product with a better quality because it is possible to dose the flavouring powder in a controlled quantity and with right percentage, saving raw materials, generally expensive, and limiting the powder dispersion in the environment.

The dosers that are normally used for the product to aromatize are vibratory channel types series VF, VFW, VFY or Weightbelts series NPW, that have the prerogative not to damage it.

For the flavour are used single screw dosers series CH, CHW, twin screw dosers series BH, BHW or vibratory channel dosers series VF, VFW, VFY. For a better dispersion it can be used air jets generated by proper nozzles. The air jets are orientated in order to invest the flavouring powder coming out from its own doser and spray it inside the Tumbler. The dust cloud that creates allows to obtain a finer and more even coating of the product. The flavouring powder can be dosed by the same side of entrance of the product to aromatize, or it can be introduced on the opposite side spraying it against the tide. The dosers, with their loading hoppers, are installed by the tumbler with their independent supporting structures equipped with wheels and easily movable to clean easily the surrounding areas.

The Tumbler rotates on 4 wheels, two of them keyed on an idle shaft and the others on a motorized shaft. The Tumbler is equipped with two sturdy perimetral rings that lean on the four wheels that are properly grooved that keep it guide. The Tumbler is completely free from mechanical constraints and it is possible to remove it easily and quickly to do its complete cleaning. The transmission group that moves the Tumbler is constituted by worm type gearbox and by a three-phase electric motor controlled by a frequency converter to adjust the rotation speed according to the product to aromatize and the required capacity. It is possible to have stainless steel gearmotors running hygienic design or certified Atex when it is requested.

The Tumbler with its transmission group is installed on a tilting chassis, built with sturdy welded pipes, whose inclination is adjustable with a hand wheel with trapezoidal and spiral screw. This system allows to vary the slope of the Tumbler walls and consequently increase or decrease the residence time of the product inside depending on the aromatization level wanted. The tilting chassis is fixed on a sturdy supporting palletized structure and equipped with height-adjustable feet. So the entire Tumbler group can be moved by means of a forklift to bring it to the washing area.

Under the Tumbler there is a containment tank whose function is to collect volatile particles of the product or flavouring powder that could fall to the ground and get the floor dirty. The containment tank is completely removable to facilitate the cleaning operations.

The Tumbler is housed in a containment and protection cabin completely independent. The cabin constitutes the Tumbler carter and it is built with welded pipes and closed with completely detachable panels. The base presents 4 height-adjustable anchor feet to the ground with hand wheel. On a side there is a wide drop-down door, gas springs aided, totally openable upwards to allow an easy extraction of the Tumbler together with its supporting structure. Also the cabin, once moved the Tumbler, becomes completely accessible to be cleaned inside.

The Tumbler with its supporting structure can be mechanically connected to the cabin using proper coupling removable bars that are included in the supply. So the entire machine becomes completely and easily movable by means of a forklift.

The most used construction materials are stainless steel Aisi 304 and 316L. The surfaces in contact with the product can be easily pickled or mirror polished. It is possible to have certifications of the contact materials on request. The external surfaces are satin finished 180 mesh. It is possible to have them glass bead blasted or electro-polished on request. The gaskets are made in dust-tight rubber, such as SBR or NBR. They are available also with FDA certification on request.

Electrical control panels can also be supplied including software specifically designed to put in relation the feeding range of the product, the dosing range of the flavouring powder and the rotation speed of the Tumbler, extremely important to obtain a good aromatization.
